Everybody is excited because next month filming of the eighth episode of the 'Star Wars' franchise starts in Dubrovnik. Movie crews will be shooting in this beautiful city from 9th of March until 16th of March this year. Even more so, production has released filming location for new 'Star Wars' movie. Jedi knights, rebels and imperial stormtroopers will be running and fighting on the Dubrovnik City Walls, the Banje Beach, the Stradun (Dubrovnik's main street), the Rector's Palace, the Old City Port and on 'Trg Oružja' Square.

Dubrovnik City Walls
They were being built from 13. to 17. century mainly for city defences. Dubrovnik City Walls are 1940 meters long and 25 meters high, towards the land they are 4-6 meters thick and towards the see 1,5-3 meters. There are towers on north, east, west and south side of the wall. American TripAdvisor says that Dubrovnik City Walls are among ten locations you should visit before you die.
The Banje Beach
Most famous of Dubrovnik beaches, Banje Beach is located near the City and has beautiful view of Dubrovnik for the swimmers to enjoy.
The Stradun (Dubrovnik's main street)
The Stradun is the main street in Dubrovnik, and its name is derisive name for big street that was used by Venetians. It was made in 9. century on the swamp that was dividing Ragusa and Dubrava and then citizens created one city.
The Rector's Palace
The Rector's palace was the centre of government in the old Dubrovnik Republic. It was the home of the Rector who was elected by the Great council to represent the Republic for a month and during that time he wasn't allowed to leave the palace at anytime except on government business which completely fits into the Dubrovnik Republic principle clearly stated above the doors of the Great council hall: 'Obliti privatorum, publica curate' which meant 'Forget private and deal with public business'.
The Old City Port
Old Port Dubrovnik is located at the Eastern part of the City. The port is encompassed by two breakwaters: breakwater Porporela in front of St. John fortress and Kaše breakwater going perpendicular across the port bay. In the time of the Dubrovnik Republic several forts protected the port: St Luke Fort, St John fortress and Revelin fortress. Today the port is a safe haven for many private boats of local citizens. Also regular boat line to Lokrum island departs from the Old Port, as well as the boat lines to Cavtat, Mlini, and various sightseeing boat tours. The most important architect in the development of the Old Port Dubrovnik was Paskoje Miličević, a master architect of the Dubrovnik Republic since 1466. Already In 1470 he had built a low bastion leaning against the Fort of St. Luke at the entrance to the port.
The construction work in the port of Dubrovnik made him famous. Amidst the Old Port there is a building with three simetrical vaults, that is the old Arsenal, a place where ships were built in the time of the Dubrovnik Republic. The vaults would be sealed by bricks in the period the ship was built in order to avoid foreign spies noting shipbuilding secrets. After the ship was built, the brick wall would be demolished and the ship launched into the sea. Today Arsenal is arranged as a restaurant.
